RMC Arlington Develops Resources for Sustaining Evidence-Based Reading Programs

How do you keep a good thing going? Many districts and schools have implemented evidence based reading programs and are seeing results in student achievement. They wonder how they can sustain the practices they have put into place. In reply, Carolyn Vincent, RMC's director of the Sustainability Project, says: The answer is in thinking about the evidence based reading program in terms of the research on implementation. That research emphasizes that there are stages and supports that will take you to fidelity of implementation. Once you're there, then building the systems to institutionalize it - policies, procedures, culture and leadership -is the name of the game.
